Your username will become your new Gmail email address. You need to have a backup user name handy in case your preferred username is already taken. However, if the username is not available you will be given several related options to choose from.

Step 4: Come up with a password

After successfully coming up with a username, you will need to also come up with a password. This password allows you to log in securely to your account. It is recommended that you come up with a password that has at least 8 characters. These characters should include both letters and numbers. This is aimed at making the password more secure and difficult to guess. You will be required to re-enter the password to ensure that it is you who is choosing it and not a robot.

Step 5: Fill out the rest of the required information

For age verification, you will be required to enter you birthday, your gender, telephone number just in case you lose access to your account and a verification email address. The mobile phone number is recommended but it is not required. It is used by Google to send you a text in order to recover the access to your account in case you lose it.
